Anna University Cancels arrear exam

Anna University cancels arrear exam after question paper leak

A section of professors felt that it could have been an attempt to halt the in-house inquiry into the revaluation scam.

  • Chennai: Posing a major challenge to Anna University’s examination system, a question paper was leaked before the exam on Monday (December 3) forcing the university to cancel yet another exam.

  • This is the second incident in the ongoing semester exams in which already the university rescheduled one exam for repetitions of questions from previous year’s question paper.

  • The university was scheduled to hold Maths-2 exam for students who had arrears on Monday.  Thousands of students from over 350 engineering colleges appeared for the exam.

  • Just when the examination was started, a student alerted the university officials about the question paper leak.

  • In further verification, the officials found that the Maths-2 question paper was leaked before the examination.

  • The university immediately cancelled exam and ordered a full-fledged enquiry to found out the culprits behind this leak.

  • "After knowing that the question paper was leaked, we have cancelled the examination. We will take appropriate measures to find out the culprits who have done this," said Professor M.K. Surappa, Vice-Chancellor, Anna University.

  • The university has rescheduled the Optoelectronic devices exam following the repetitions of questions from last year’s question paper.

  • "It is the first time such a leak has happened in the university and the university will hand over the investigation to the right authorities," Professor Surappa added.

  • The university has followed the same procedures as earlier in a printing of question papers.

  • "We will completely overhaul the examination system," the Vice-Chancellor assured.

  • A section of professors felt that it could have been an attempt to halt the in-house inquiry into the revaluation scam.

  • "Though the CBCID’s inquiry is not moving very fast, the university has been conducting a detailed investigation into the revaluation scam and trying to bring all the unscrupulous elements to the book. There is a possibility that some sections might try to sabotage the inquiry by leaking the question paper. But, only a detailed enquiry could confirm it," professors said.

  • Some professors said the number of affiliating engineering colleges is very high and urged to decentralise the powers to regional centres to smoothly conduct the exams
