More than 50,000 students from 500-odd engineering colleges, affiliated to Anna University, attended the arrears exams for Mathematics-II paper on Monday. Soon after the exam started, the university administration received a call from an anonymous person who claimed that the question paper was leaked. Controller of Examinations found that the claim was genuine and informed the vice-chancellor of the university, MK Surappa. Though the exams were cancelled and a detailed probe was ordered into the issue, no major breakthrough was reported till Tuesday evening.

Copy of the leaked question paper showed corrections made on them before they were sent to the final printing stage. Handwriting on the question paper is being studied, the source said.

Another senior university official said, “We are speaking to teaching staff in and around Chennai and will soon find out how the question paper was leaked.” The university is yet to finalise the date for conducting a re-exam.

Earlier this year, the university conducted re-exam for ECE students since Part-B of the question paper was a mere repetition of the previous year's paper and five questions in Part-A were also repetitive
